Campione del Garda is recognised as one of the windiest and most reliable kitesurfing spots in Europe. Thanks to the lake’s particular geographical setting and the surrounding mountains, the wind blows practically almost every day of the year, creating ideal conditions for the sport.
In the morning conditions bring more developed waves, while in the afternoon there may be waves but the lake is generally calmer. This variety makes Campione the perfect destination both for those learning and for the most experienced riders.
The Spot and the Beach
Campione del Garda has a dedicated beach used exclusively for kitesurfing, kept separate from the regular swimming areas. The area is set up with a launch corridor that allows riders to pump up their kite in a clear, organised space — well away from swimmers and passers-by.
As at any well-run kite spot, a few basic practices apply: one kite at a time in the launch zone, a safe distance from the shore maintained while riding, and assistance at take-off from a fellow rider or instructor. First-timers will find the afternoon Ora — steady wind and a generally flat lake — the best window to start learning safely.

Three kitesurfing schools operate in Campione del Garda with FIV-, IKO- and VDWS-certified instructors: Kitecampione, Garda Kite Surf and Reunion Kite Academy. All offer courses for every level, from the complete beginner to the advanced rider, with equipment included and in-water assistance throughout.
The lift service — a boat shuttle along the lake — serves three distinct purposes: returning the rider to the starting point after a downwind session; enabling a direct water entry for those who prefer not to launch from the beach; and accompanying beginners on their first sessions with an instructor on board at all times.

Who is this spot for?
Beginners: the Ora is your wind
The afternoon sessions with the Ora (south wind, 10–20 knots, from 12:00 to sunset) are the most suitable for those learning to kite. The lake is generally flat, the wind steady and easy to read. All three schools run structured courses from scratch: ground theory, kite control on land, then first assisted water sessions with radio communication and a support boat close by throughout.
Independent riders: the Pelèr calls
Riders who already hold a licence often head straight for the morning Pelèr (north wind, 15–27 knots, from 02:00 to 12:00): choppier conditions, higher speeds and a need to read lake shifts quickly. A strong Pelèr morning with clear skies is what local riders describe as the best sessions of the entire season.

The ideal season runs from April to October, with the summer months (June-September) offering the most consistent conditions. The wind blows on average between 12 and 25 knots, with even higher peaks on the best days.
