Kitesurfing at Lake Garda — The Best Spot in Europe
Campione del Garda is Europe's windiest kite spot. Discover the best conditions, local schools, and where to stay for your kitesurfing holiday on Lake Garda.
Why Campione del Garda Is a World-Class Kite Spot
Tucked along the western shore of Lake Garda, in the province of Brescia, Campione del Garda is widely regarded as one of the windiest and most consistent kitesurfing destinations in Europe. The village sits at the foot of dramatic cliffs that funnel thermal winds straight onto the lake surface with remarkable regularity — making it a magnet for kiters of all levels from April through October.
Unlike many coastal spots where conditions are unpredictable, Campione benefits from two distinct, thermally driven winds that alternate throughout the day. This means you can often get two sessions in a single day, making the most of every hour on the water.
The Winds — Pelèr and Ora
Two winds define the kite experience at Lake Garda:
Pelèr is a northerly wind that builds overnight and peaks in the early morning, typically between 6:00 and 11:00. It arrives clean and steady from the northern end of the lake, generating ideal conditions for advanced riders. Pelèr is at its strongest from September through October.
Ora is the afternoon thermal that kicks in around noon and strengthens through the early evening, blowing from south to north. It tends to be slightly lighter than the Pelèr but remains consistent, making it perfect for intermediate riders. The Ora is reliable from late spring through summer.
Together, these two winds create a daily window of nearly continuous rideable conditions.

What Level Do You Need?

Best Time to Visit for Kitesurfing
The kite season runs from April to October. September and October offer the very best riding: the Pelèr blows hard and consistently, crowds thin out, and water temperatures are still comfortable.
